Surface Pressure Fluctuation

The aerodynamic design of a vehicle is probably the most important parameter seen from both an aesthetic and fuel consumption viewpoint. Therefore, measurement of surface pressure fluctuations directly in the airflow in a wind tunnel provides the aerodynamics engineer with valuable information.

By using a surface microphone and a PULSE project from the PULSE Knowledge Library, a pressure mapping can be made in minutes. The microphones can be mounted quickly and easily, even on glass or curved surfaces, by using flexible mounting discs.

The PULSE project guides the operator step by step through the test process. One channel measures the in-car noise level (optionally using HATS) and the in-car noise signal can be correlated with different noise sources in the turbulent flow, for example, side mirror noise. A full report can be printed with the push of a button.

The measurement of surface pressure makes it possible to differentiate between structure- and airborne noise, and provides a more precise noise path determination.

Using real-life measurements, it is possible to verify simulation models, so closing the loop between simulation and real world, full-scale measurements.

The surface microphone is provided with TEDS, securing use of the latest calibration data, and one version supports Brüel & Kjær’s patented CIC (Charge Injection Calibration) for full system verification.

Level meter and autospectra give a fast overview of the results obtained with the surface microphone and the incar microphone
