Noise Prediction

For a hearing protection program at a place of work to be successful, it is important to know how noise levels are distributed in the factory hall or throughout a complex. Authorities often request a noise map from companies where excessive noise levels are suspected. The data for a noise map is obtained with sound level meters such as 2238 Mediator or analyzers such as 2250 Hand-held Analyzer or 2260 Investigator.

However, sometimes it is difficult, impossible or even hazardous to make measurements - either one off or routine. This can be the case at, for example, refineries and chemical plants. In order to assess noise problems in such situations, a model of the sound field can be built on the basis of the sound power generated by the noise sources.

ODEON software simulates the acoustics of buildings. From the geometry and properties of surfaces, the acoustics can be calculated, illustrated and heard.
ODEON's prediction algorithms (image source method and ray tracing) allow reliable predictions at modest calculation times. ODEON is ideal for prediction of acoustics in large rooms such as concert halls, opera halls, auditoria, foyers, underground stations, airport terminals and industrial workrooms. For prediction of noise from large machinery in industrial environments, a special ray-tracing algorithm has been developed allowing modelling of surface and line sources.
